Installation Tips

When you are selecting a location for the wireless video systems you need to take a few things into consideration.

Line-of-sight

Line-of-sight refers to a clear, unobstructed path between the transmitter and receiver antennas. For maximum radio frequency (RF) propagation at high frequencies, clear line-of-sight is required.

When installing the system, you should try to transmit through the least amount of materials for the best signal possible. Problems will occur when you try to transmit through any type of metal or steel-reinforced concrete. If there is a significant amount of metal too close to the transmitter antenna, reflected RF may cancel some of the transmitted signal and reduce the range and the signal quality.

Height

You need to ensure that the system will be mounted high enough to prevent any traffic from passing between the transmitter and receiver antennas. If they are placed too low, the video and audio quality will be reduced every time a large object passes between the two antennas.

Testing

Before mounting the system permanently, you should test the system in the location where it is going to be mounted to ensure that the transmitted signal can be received using the locations that you have chosen. Trango Systems' products are easily mounted with the hardware that comes standard with each one.

Signal Strength

When you are testing an analog system or aligning the antennas, you should use a small video monitor or the relative signal strength indicator (RSSI) on the system receiver to ensure that you are receiving the best signal possible. Pressing and holding the channel selector switch on the receiver (on Eagles and Falcons) for two seconds and releasing it will activate the Received Signal Strength Indicator. The LEDs will then indicate the signal strength and not the channel selected. RSSI mode can be exited by pressing the channel selector switch again momentarily. Keep in mind that, when aligning the antenna for an indoor application, the best signal might be a bounce through a window or a door and not a direct shot.
