Senior RF Engineer

Location: San Diego, CA
Reports to: VP, Engineering

Objective Statement

To design and verify analog and RF circuitry for system-level products up to 7 GHz, and to act as project team lead for hardware design of radios.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Conduct radio system level design including level plan and block diagrams.
  2. Select and evaluate RF components and raw materials.
  3. Interface with vendors as necessary through design phase.
  4. Conduct engineering reviews.
  5. Design and simulate RF/analog lumped element and distributed circuits (PLLs, IQ modulators, Power Amplifiers, LNAs, up/down converters, patch antennas, filters, gain stages, power supply bypassing) using microwave simulation/design software from DC through 7 GHz.
  6. Produce schematics for entire radio design.
  7. Product printed circuit board layouts for RF section designs.
  8. Produce time/cost inputs to schedulting and budgeting activities.
  9. Act as Lead on radio design and test, interfacing with other engineers to complete the job.  Assign tasks for team members.
  10. Interface with configuration control department to keep engineering drawings current and complete.
  11. Resolve engineering problems found during production.
  12. Author and maintain test criteria for circuitry designed.
  13. Maintain detailed and organized development notes and lab test results.
  14. Evaluate competitive products at the engineering level to assess Trango product viability and competitive advantages.
  15. Product weekly activity reports.
Requirements / Required Skills
  1. BSEE with at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA.
  2. At least 7 years of RF circuit design experience for commercial wireless products, including up/down converters, low noise front ends, PLLs, power amplifiers, modulators, and demodulators to 7GHz.
  3. Ability to integrate digital circuitry into RF circuitry and manage PCB layout.
  4. Prior experience managing electromagnetic interference (EMI) on densely packed PCBs.
  5. Prior microstrip patch antenna design experience preferred.
  6. Familiarity with 802.11 b/g PHY radio specifications.
  7. MSEE degree desired.
  8. Understanding of FCC Parts 15, 90, 101 rules.
  9. Prior experience Altium/Protel, Ansoft Designer.

Firmware Engineer

Location: San Diego, CA
Reports to: Software Development Manager

Objective Statement

Aid in the development embedded software for point-to-point and point-to-multipoint broadband wireless systems.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Design, implement, debug, and test and maintain point-to-point and point-to-multipoint broadband wireless systems.
  2. Design, implement and maintain debugging tools.
  3. Assist software validation engineer to design, code and maintain scripts/programs to automate test plan.
  4. Maintain detailed firmware design notes and documentation.
  5. Interface with marketing and production departments to define product requirements as they apply to firmware design.
  6. Interface with marketing and documentation control departments to release new versions of firmware and associated documentation.
Requirements / Required Skills
  1. BS Computer Engineering or Electrical Engineering.
  2. 5+ years experience in C programming for 32 bit microprocessor systems.
  3. 2+ years experience in Linux kernel and driver development.
  4. 3+ years of firmware programming experience for Ethernet based network equipment, preferably routers, wireless LAN or fixed wireless broadband products.
  5. In depth knowledge of

Mechanical Design Manager

Location: San Diego, CA
Reports to: VP of Engineering

Objective Statement

To design new mechanical parts, enclosures, and test fixtures for Trango products and test systems using CAD Software. The position will also responsible for the overall configuration control and proper documentation of products and processes for the company.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Design new injection molded, stamped metal, and cast metal product enclosures and related parts using thermal simulation, mechanical modeling and drafting CAD tools suck as Solidworks and AutoCAD.
  2. Ensure that designs are producible in volume.
  3. Create an incoming inspection acceptance criteria for each part designed.
  4. Establish, maintain, and enforce a set of standard operating procedures for the Engineering Department.
  5. Assign work/priorities for subordinates.
  6. Manager the overall documentation control process.
  7. Provide schedule and budgetary inputs to project lead.
  8. Perform reviews of subordinates.
  9. Perform self-audits of internal documentation and filing system to ensure that all are accurate, complete, and up-to-date.
Requirements / Required Skills
  1. BSME or higher.
  2. At least 10 years design experience of mechanical parts.
  3. Solid understanding of injection molding, metal stamping, and aluminum casting processes and limitations.
  4. Previous managerial experience.
  5. Proficiency with Solidworks, AutoCAD R14, Microsoft Word, Excel, and Powerpoint.
  6. Understanding of engineering documentation and configuration control processes
  7. Experience with wireless products that house electronic circuits preferred.
  8. Previous design experience with outdoor enclosures desired.


Senior Embedded Software Engineer

Location: Santa Clara, CA
Reports to: Software Development Manager

Objective Statement

Responsible for the development, debugging and maintenance of system software, including device drivers and layer 2 software, related to Trango's point-to-point product line.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Design, implement, debug and maintain point-to-point broadband wireless systems.
  2. Designs, develops, and maintain Ethernet protocols and Layer 2 switching software.
  3. Interface with marketing and production departments to define new product requirements as they apply to firmware/software design.
  4. Assist software validation engineer to design, code and maintain scripts/programs to automate test plan.
  5. Maintain detailed software design specification and documentation.
Requirements / Required Skills
  1. BS in Computer Engineering or Electrical Engineering
  2. Minimum 5 years experience developing embedded system software for carrier class systems.
  3. Strong embedded C programming experience.
  4. 3+ years of firmware or software programming experience for Ethernet based network equipment, preferably routers, wireless LANs or fixed wireless broadband systems.
  5. 2+ years experience in Linux device driver development.
  6. Requires in depth data networking knowledge i.e. TCP/IP, Ethernet Switching, 802.1Q, pseudo wire and routing protocol.
  7. Excellent troubleshooting and problem solving skills.
  8. Must be able to work with minimal supervision.
  9. Experience in high availability system design and implementation in router/switch.
  10. Experience with Ethernet switch chips (Marvell, Broadcom) SDK a big plus.
  11. CCDP, CCNA, or CCIE certification a plus.


Software Validation Engineer

Location: San Diego, CA
Reports to: Software Development Manager

Objective Statement

Test embedded software for point-to-point and point-to-multipoint broadband wireless systems, and to design, implement, and maintain Test Automation.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Design and write formal procedures of test plans to validate specification compliance.
  2. Run tes plans to verify specification compliance.
  3. Design, code and maintain scripts/programs to automate test plans.
  4. Design, code and maintain debugging tools for software development.
  5. Assist developer to benchmark and debug software.
  6. Interface with technical support department to verify and replicate reported problems.
  7. Maintain problem/bug tracking system (Bugzilla).
Requirements / Required Skills
  1. BS in Computer Engineering or Electrical Engineering
  2. 5+ years experience testing/validating software/firmware of network.
  3. 2+ years experience using test equipment for Ethernet or TCP/IP products (i.e. SmartBit)

Senior Systems Engineer

Objective Statement

To develop system specifications and test plans. To assist in debug and optimizations of modem parameters, and to write and supervise Design Validation Test plans.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Create system design specifications for wireless products by interfacing with Marketing, applications engineers and design engineers.
  2. Translate regulatory requirements into design specifications (FCC, ETSI, etc.)
  3. Lead System test verification including software and hardware departments.
  4. Analyze system costs to determine potential cost savings.
  5. Conduct link budget analysis.
  6. Conduct engineering reviews.
  7. Determine/optimize modem settings in radios to achieve best performance.
  8. Produce system level block diagrams.
  9. Provide time/cost inputs to scheduling and budgeting activities.
  10. Interface with configuration control department to keep engineering drawings current and complete.

Test Engineering Manager

Location: San Diego, CA
Reports to: VP of Engineering

Objective Statement

Design and support production of automatic test fixture circuitry and associated programs for Trango wireless products.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Lead design and test of Automatic Test Systems for production use. Includes circuit level design and design of associated automatic test software using VEE, Labview, Python, etc.
  2. Supervise one or more engineers and/or technicians.
  3. Provide time/cost inputs to scheduling and budgeting activities.
  4. Interface with configuration control department to keep engineering drawings current and complete.
  5. Interface with mechanical designer to produce test fixture drawings.
  6. Resolve engineering problems found during production.
  7. Analyze prototype circuits using Oscilloscopes, Logic Analyzers Bit Error Rate Test sets and standard bench equipment. Product hard copies of lab results.
  8. Author and maintain test criteria for circuitry designed.
  9. Maintain detailed and organized development notes and lab test results.
  10. Assign tasks for subordinate engineers or lab technician(s).
  11. Report status on project to manager on a weekly basis as needed.
Requirements / Required Skills
  1. BSEE with at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA.
  2. In depth knowledge of high speed microcontroller system design, SDRAM, FLASH interfaces, D/A, A/D converters.
  3. In depth knowledge of Ethernet (TCP/IP), JTAG and GPIB communications protocol from a hardware standpoint.
  4. Digital schematic capture experience.
  5. Operating knowledge of Spectrum Analyzer, Oscilloscope, logic analyzers.
  6. Familiar with Windows operating systems.
  7. Experience with Altium CAD Software preferable.
  8. MSEE degree desired.
  9. Design experience with PIC controllers preferable.
  10. Familiarity with modulation formats for wireless communications preferable.

Applications Engineer

Location: Santa Clara, CA
Reports to: Product Marketing Manager

Objective Statement

The Applications Engineer is responsible for pre and post sales support and service of customer's technical requirements for Trango's wireless connectivity products. Furthermore, the position will require interaction with marketing and engineering to resolve and troubleshoot Trango product's technical issues and problems.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Design experiments to duplicate and document performance issues with Trango’s products.
  2. Be part of creation and maintenance of application & configuration notes, user manuals and regulatory compliance documentation.
  3. Assess, validate, and report interoperability testing with peripheral networking/ communications equipment.
  4. Verify firmware and software stability prior to production release and coordination of beta product testing with customer base.
  5. Maintain bug database and communication of feature requirements to marketing.
  6. You will contribute quantifiable information gained from your interaction with customers to drive future enhancements to products, address current product deficiencies and report competitor’s strengths/weakness.
  7. You will be self motivated and will be able to go the “extra mile” for the customer understanding that service is what distinguishes your company from the competition.
Requirements / Required Skills
  1. BS degree in EE, CS or related IT field
  2. Minimum 3 years related industry experience with a networking products company and/or fixed wireless access manufacturer in a similar capacity.
  3. Effective Communicator: This position requires strong phone and email communication skills. Customers are contacting you to obtain support on critical networking issues and you are the expert! You must have a strong understanding of technical terms but possess the ability to methodically guide a customer through a problem to resolution. Prior customer relationship training/help desk support is desired and knowledge of RMA processes is a bonus along with ability to look at problems from multiple perspectives understanding that multiple operating systems (Windows, Linux, etc.) must be considered with multiple, dependent equipment vendors (Cisco, Foundry, Netgear, etc.)
  4. Hardware Expert: The position requires a good understanding of networked communications devices such as routers, firewalls, CSU/DSU, bridges, multiplexers, servers and switches
  5. Networking: The position requires strong knowledge of IP backbone architecture, IP subnet addressing, basic network designs, TCP/IP protocol suite (IP, ARP, ICMP, TCP, UDP), routing protocols such as BGP, OSPF, RIP and EIGRP, security (802.1x): Firewall/NAT configuration, FTP, proxy server, VLANs (802.1q), Class of Service (802.1p, 802.3ad), RADIUS/PPPoE and knowledge of TDM architectures including OC lines, full & fractional T1/E1, ATM, and Frame Relay
  6. RF: The position requires an understanding of basic RF principles in both unlicensed and licensed spectrum including: propagation, reflection, rain rate and attenuation. You will understand concepts such as Fresnel zone, antenna patterns, fade margin and path loss. Concepts such as FEC and ARQ will be understood along with CCK, OFDM and QAM modulation.
  7. Travel up to 50% of the time to conduct onsite training and other services.
